Enjoy magnificent 360-degree views of Yosemite Valley from Taft Point, a glacier observation point. Take a relatively easy hike to reach the vantage point; the short trek leads through the woods but involves a great deal of elevation change, amounting to 60 m (200 ft). Standing at 2,285 m (7,500 ft), the point offers dramatic vistas of Yosemite Falls and the valley walls. Parking is available 2.5 km (1.6 mi) from the point. Plan your visit to Taft Point and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Yosemite National Park journey site.

  • The hike to Taft point is super easy. No steep hills, not complicated paths, super easy access and plenty of room for amazing captures. El Capitan is right in front of you and you will enjoy one of the most spectacular views of The Valley on your feet. Plenty of cool spots to rest by the edge of the mountain line.
  • Taft point is one of my favorite spots in Yosemite National Park. I’ve done my hike there starting from Glacier Point Road at night for an adventure. When I reached the end of the trail, I met The Fissures and the Taft Point with their windy, deep, sublime darkness. In that mystical and secluded night, I leaned on a rock and draw my eyes to the one of the darkest skies I’ve ever seen in California. Milky Way line was right up there, with its magnificence as always. I was lucky to spot a couple of meteor showers. This was surely one of the most memorable hikes of my life. No need to warn; don’t get too close to the cliff’s edge. It is very steep, rising 3,500 feet from the Yosemite Valley floor. I would be happy to go back there once again in the daylight and look at the El Capitan and the rest of the valley from that angle.
