The Friends of Theodore Roosevelt Island serve as the voice and active force for ensuring that the memorial plaza, trail system and woodland landscape remain a fitting tribute to President Theodore Roosevelt’s conservation legacy. With our help, visitors today and in future generations will enjoy the beautiful and serene natural urban setting that is symbolic of all the natural lands in America that Theodore Roosevelt loved and protected.

Among our inaugural year goals are to launch a campaign to recruit founding Friends Group members, introduce new recreational and educational opportunities at Theodore Roosevelt Island and increase awareness of the presidential memorial.
With our world travel planner, Washington DC attractions like Theodore Roosevelt Island Park can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • It was alright. Hard to find parking and then you walk over the bridge to the island. No bikes allowed. Wooden trail over the swamp or muddy dirt trails after it rains. I wouldn't go on a hot day.
  • Very nice island that I didn't even know existed until a random internet search turned it up. There is plenty of parking, some bicycles you can rent for the trail that connects to Mt. Vernon, water fountains, and a bathroom on the island. However, the bathrooms are the reason for my 4 star review. I wanted to gag walking in the women's restroom. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned since before covid! Would much rather use a porta potty rather than use them! Something definitely needs to be done about them... Otherwise, the rest of the island is amazing. There is about 2 miles of walking trails around the island, with a map provided, and of course the memorial. It being early March when I visited, nothing was in bloom, so I would love to come back in the Spring.
