The Renwick Gallery is a branch of the Smithsonian American Art Museum located in Washington, D.C. that displays American craft and decorative arts from the 19th to 21st century. The gallery is housed in a National Historic Landmark building that was opened in 1859 on Pennsylvania Avenue and originally housed the Corcoran Gallery of Art (now one block from the White House and across the street from the Old Executive Office Building). When it was built in 1859, it was known as "the American Louvre".

  • Saw an exhibit from their collection but newly curated. Beautiful objects, always, and their gift store is first rate!

  • We visited on our last day in DC, the gallery was okay. Some pretty ridiculous ‘art’, but the female security staff member was so rude!! She took a dislike to my partner and pretty much aggressively.....  more

  • I love this gallery. There are fascinating, creative pieces that cause you to stop and marvel. I am always impressed by new exhibits. While some modern art galleries you go to and think, "I don't get it, anyone could make that", the skill on display here is nothing short of amazing. I look at some of the ceramics, textiles, and woodworking pieces and am floored at the skill and craftsmanship. It's a small museum, but could spend 30mins to an hour here depending on how involved you get on reading the info or examining the art.
  • Interior is gorgeous and is a cool museum of craft art! No tickets needed and cost was zero to get in and walk around. No mask required, they will check your purses/bags and do not wheel in luggage. I did observe some folks trying to come in with luggage and were told to leave. I will definitely visit again as the art changes.
