  • Great fairly short hike on a dirt road to an old fire lookout. Snowshoe in the winter, hike the road in the summer. View is excellent. Good for kids too.

  • The Martis Peak Fire Lookout is a truly amazing destination to visit in North Lake Tahoe. It is one of my favorite places in Lake Tahoe now and it offers amazing views of North Lake Tahoe and the lake as well as the surrounding landscape. It is fairly easy to access via a few miles of a mostly paved and partial dirt road, as well as a short 1/4 mile hike up a dirt road to the Fire Lookout. Highly recommend seeing if visiting North Lake Tahoe.
  • Though the beginning road of the road to this lookout was slightly rough, It was well worth the slight bumpiness. The drive up is through the heart of nature, and if you stop along the way and turn your car off, you will realize truly how peaceful this forest is. The only sounds to be heard are birds, the wind, and your own heartbeat. The air is the finest, freshest, and most crisp air there is, each breath feels like it is cleaning your lungs. Many places to stop and admire the forest on the way. At a certain point, you have to walk up the rest of the trail, and if you take this delightful stroll you will be met with the best view of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding area possible. The cabin has a historical feel to it, though abandoned not too long ago. The names carved into the rails show how much of an landmark it is for the surrounding region, and it is an experience you wont forget.
