A 38-room mansion nestled among pine and cedar trees, Vikingsholm was constructed mostly from materials found in the surrounding wilderness. It took 200 workers to complete this castle-like structure in 1928 and 1929. Considered as a supreme example of Scandinavian architecture, the house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Guided tours are available seasonally. Enjoy the scenery of Lake Tahoe as you climb a 1.6 km (1 mi) steep scenic trail to the site. Parking is limited and has a fee. • Truly gorgeous and amazing property, history, and story. We very much enjoyed the tour and and viewing of the house and property. How amazing it must have been to live in that gorgeous house with the amazing people who lived there.
  • A beautiful but VERY steep hike to view Vikingsholm. Unfortunately the building was closed when we visited, but it was still impressive to wander around the area and take another short hike to the waterfalls nearby. Parking costs $10 in the lot, and there seems to always be a bit of a wait.
