The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame was founded in 1950 in Saratoga Springs, New York, to honor the achievements of American Thoroughbred race horses, jockeys, and trainers. In 1955, the museum moved to its current location on Union Avenue near Saratoga Race Course, at which time inductions into the hall of fame began. Each spring, following the tabulation of the final votes, the announcement of new inductees is made, usually during Kentucky Derby Week in early May. The actual inductions are held in mid-August during the Saratoga race meeting.By using our Saratoga Springs itinerary planner, you can arrange your visit to National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame and other attractions in Saratoga Springs.
The Hall of Fame's nominating committee selects eight to ten candidates from among the four Contemporary categories (male horse, female horse, jockey and trainer) to be presented to the voters. Changes in voting procedures that commenced with the 2010 candidates allow the voters to choose multiple candidates from a single Contemporary category, instead of a single candidate from each of the four Contemporary categories. For example, in 2016, two female horses (Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta) were inducted at the same time.
The museum also houses a large collection of art, artifacts, and memorabilia that document the history of horse racing from the eighteenth century to the present.

An interesting museum with tons to see and read about. The 360 degree movie was interesting and the guide who introduced it was certainly passionate about racing and was a wealth of information...

If you come during racing season, weekend mornings have special free admission - I forget if they are on Saturdays or Sundays, but the museum is free on those days

Great museum honoring horse racing legends and its history. Very helpful and friendly staffs. Located across from Saratoga Race Track. Very easy to find and to get to. Lots of exhibits of history of racing. The hall of fame has a great short film. A lot of hands on displays and areas for kids. Great place for families with kids! A must stop when visiting Saratoga Springs.

This museum is amazing. The staff are all wonderful and friendly. They let me in the building a little early when I biked there in the rain! The race riding simulator was fantastic-- the closest most of us will ever get to being a jockey in a race!! Their collection is awesome too. If you're at all a fan of horses or racing this is a must see. Loved seeing all the photos of the trainers, grooms, jockeys doing it all for the love of the horse.
