  • Awesome trail. absolutely nothing challenging. slight gradient and wide well-groomed trail all the way up. perhaps rated moderate simply for the length? This trail is a geologic wonderland. And...

  • I found Mount Umunhum as one the best and well managed trails in the Bay Area. We started early in the morning by 7 AM and were among the first ones to reach the top. Total hike time was around 3.5 hours. You can see the whole of South Bay and a part of Pacific Ocean view from the top. The trail is mostly under the shade, those who love forest views would definitely enjoy this. Also while returning I noticed mostly families were hiking with the kids so I definitely recommend this trail as a family hiking trail. Note: The parking is limited though so I recommend carpool specially during weekends (if not always).
  • Very nice trail with lots of shade. Park at Bald mountain parking lot and it is total 8 miles hike to the top and back. It has some elevation gain but not very challenging so good candidate for a family hike. Smell and colors of the endemic plants are something to note. I went in a foggy day and the hike between the clouds was marvelous.
