Kelley Park, San Jose

History of San Jose preserved here! Friendly docents share the past as you step through old buildings and museums. This is a lovely, enlightening place, an excellent enrichment activity for kids and adults. Heritage of Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese immigrants are celebrated, as well as the architecture, artifacts and technology of this region, mostly for the 50 years that ended about 100 years ago. There are many buildings, but dependent on volunteers, some are may be open, some closed during your visit. I visited Independence weekend mid-day (sat July 2nd) and felt like I saw a lot.

Kelley Park is a large park with tons of picnic areas, a zoo, a disc golf course, a museum and more. Ita very close to downtown San Jose so very convenient. Parking is usually pretty good at any of their various lots, although its $6. The park itself is pretty clean, but there are a few homeless wandering around, however they do not bother you from what I've seen. Water fountains for the most part don't work, and the bathrooms were in ok condition. If you plan on hosting a big group, reserve a spot ahead of time but be weary of the rules to post the permit by 8am and have someone stand there from 10am up to your event or someone can steal your spot.
