Step aboard USS Pampanito, a veteran Balao-class submarine that allows you to see how crews lived and worked aboard the vessel during the World War II. Constructed in 1943 to meet America's need for advanced submarines, the craft helped patrol shipping lanes in the Pacific theater and on several occasions engaged and sunk Japanese ships. Visit this National Register of Historic Places-listed museum/ship, and explore the corridors and tight spaces where her crew spent months at a time at sea. You'll find bunk beds, periscopes, the engine room, the torpedo tube, and more inside; many mechanisms are still in working condition today. • Very interesting and informative visit, and was amazed at what the seamen had to endure, well worth a visit. Didn't use the audio tour, but managed ok.

  • Wonderful piece of history! Located in the middle of the touristy location of San Francisco - Pier 45. Parking nearby is scarce, you may consider parking further away and taking a cable car or a bus to get there. Self-guided tour recordings made by actual crew of the submarine are available - a QR code to access them is available at the ticketing Over a thrilling experience since the submarine is in the water, you get to hear water hitting the side of it and rocking it left and right It's quite cramped inside, in case you are claustrophobic! Masks are required to enter into the submarine
  • Having never experienced being on a sub before, this was a very interesting experience. I like that it’s self guided, unfortunately they don’t offer Internet connection to download their audio guide. Anyways just wandering around in the sub was fun, and trying to imagine what it was like to be stuck on that ship for weeks and weeks and months on end with a group of 70 other people. I don’t know how they didn’t go crazy, but a great experience. Oh my goodness, could you imagine sleeping over a torpedo??!!
