Descending the slope of one of San Francisco's seven hills, Filbert Street Stairs remains one of the most famous stairways in the city, known for its length and scenic vistas. The stairway features 284 wooden steps running down three blocks and through public gardens and past Art Deco buildings. The gardens, home to some noisy parrots, are tended by the residents of the street and feature interesting sculptures. Look for the building with a facade that features a three-story-high relief of the city. • We did the steps actually after the Coit Tower as we headed towards the water. These steps are great as you get to see old school houses and gardens, and there are even areas where you wouldn't...

  • Nice walk to Coit Tower via Filbert. Beautiful surroundings. Not very strenuous, rather easy walk to the top. Good view of the city and water.

  • The Filbert Stairs is one of the best urban walks in San Francisco. You feel like you’re on a hidden world.
  • There isn't much to these steps besides them being actual steps and being surrounded by home gardens. The views from them aren't any better than most other streets around San Francisco but I did find the gardens and the plants surrounding you to be really unique and pretty. If you're passing through I think it's worth it to walk up or down just to see the gardens.
