  • Our family went to Olympic Valley for a wedding over Memorial Day. We brought winter coats as the weather is slightly unpredictable. The afternoon of the wedding temperatures were in the forties...

  • One hour up (even for the least in shape of us), then an hour lolling by a stunning lake, then a swim in the lake (much warmer than Lake Tahoe), then an easier amble down. Will do again next time...

  • Nestled in the foothills of the Granite Chief Wilderness peaks just north of Lake Tahoe, the Five Lakes promise dramatic yet tranquil surroundings, a place to relax, fish or swim. The hike starts out at the junction of Alpine Meadows Rd and Deer Park Rd, rises gently towards the Five Lakes plateau and up the side of KT22 peak through expanses of exposed granite and jagged volcanic rock. The two mile trail maintains little more than a slight incline, but still gains nine hundred feet of elevation before reaching the lakes. On the warmest Tahoe days this trail lacks a great deal of shade, but the lakes themselves provide plenty of cover from the sun and opportunities to cool off in the waters.
  • Awesome hike! Went here to backpack to whikey creek camp. Plenty of space to park in afternoon on a weekday. No issues with bears during the hike or near our vehicle. Used a filter and drank water from the creek and no issues! Easy trail to follow but it is steep in the beginning
