The Bay Area is blessed with great parks and big open spaces and this is one, perfect for hiking and a picnic. Close in to the city, just up in the Oakland Hills.

Had a wonderful time here. There is safe parking in the park and access to a wonderful playground, swimming pool and the best trails in Oakland. You can get turned around easily, so watch yourself. Finally, you can count on clean bathrooms with running water and water fountains that actually work too.

What a great, hidden little gem. $5 for parking gets you into a nice sized lot with lots of space. There are bathrooms, a great playground including several structures to climb. The playground is not shaded and the slides are mostly metal, so thats not ideal on a really sunny or hot day. There are grassy areas to throw a Frisbee and tons of picnic tables all around the play area and across the parking lot in the woods. We saw many parties taking place. There are also many trails and picnic areas in the redwoods to take walks or eat. We loved it here and it was not crowded and pretty quiet. We took a walk on the manzanita loop and it was the perfect length for younger kids. We found all kinds of interesting mushrooms and plants to look at.
