Jack London Square is a popular entertainment and business destination on the waterfront of Oakland, California, United States. Named after the author Jack London and owned by the Port of Oakland, it is the home of stores, restaurants, hotels, an Amtrak station, a San Francisco Bay Ferry ferry dock, the historic Heinold's First and Last Chance Saloon, the (re-located) cabin Jack London lived in in the Klondike, and a movie theater. A farmer's market is hosted among the retail shops on Sunday mornings. The former presidential yacht USS Potomac is moored at an adjacent slip.Jack London Square is located at the south end of Broadway, across the Oakland Estuary from Alameda. The name has also come to refer to the formerly industrial neighborhood surrounding Jack London Square now known as the Jack London District, which has undergone significant rehabilitation in the last decade, including loft conversions and new construction. Current California Governor (and former Oakland mayor) Jerry Brown made his home here before moving north to the Uptown neighborhood.A visit to Jack London Square represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Oakland route planner to plot your vacation.

I Come here for a couple of my favorite stores. And sometimes we come here to dine. It's a nice are, could be so much more. An unrealized part of downtown.

If you like crime and theft, this is your place. Cars broken into daily in broad daylight with people walking by, thieves caught in the act on area cameras but police are too swamped to do anything...

We had a wonderful day sitting at the wine bar Rosenblum drinking wine waiting on the ferry. We caught the ferry to San Francisco hung out ate dinner until night time. came back and someone had busted out the rear window of our rental car to get in the truck. Thankful we didn't have anything in the car because we saw a sign at the rental car place about not leaving valuables in your vehicle. If you want people to come down here as tourist you have to make them feel safe. Just thankful we had extra insurance so we didn't have to come out of pocket for the rental car.

Flew in to Oakland International Airport, took a quick Uber ride to Jack London Sq to sleep and eat for a few days. What a great spot to stay on the water, and then catch that Ferry ride over to the SF Ferry Building and beyond. Logistically speaking, JL Sq has it all. The History, Excellent dining, Live music, Family entertainment, Marina Life, and even an Amtrak Station is within walking distance. Downtown Oakland is a short walk away, professional sports is a very short ride away...and it appears that there is a resurgence of business, high density living and community activities increasing around the immediate area. The Bay Area Trail is looking good from here too. Lots of local walkers hitting the trail. It's clean, safe and right on the waters edge. Nice job Oakland!
