Create an itinerary including Montana de Oro State Park
Hike, ride, bike, swim, camp, and more among the rugged cliffs, coastal plains, beaches, and hills of Montana de Oro State Park. Named the "Mountain of Gold" in Spanish for its golden wildflowers that appear in the springtime, the 3,237 hectare (8,000 acre) park features a large network of biking, foot, and equestrian trails ranging in difficulty and length. Head to the highest point, Valencia Peak, at 411 m (1,347 ft), or walk down to Spooner's Cove, the park's most popular beach. Try tide pooling in the coves to see some of the local marine life, and keep an eye out for otters, seabirds, and crabs. If you plan to swim here, beware of the strong tide. • My son who attended college at Cal Poly told us to come here. We have been to the San Luis Obispo area many times but never to this park. We loved it. We walked the Bluff Trail and I couldn't stop....  more

  • Magical place that keeps getting better with each visit. A lot to explore here from Spooners cove beach, fabulous visitor center with gift shop, majestic walking path along the peninsula, and coastal access with no one around. Tide pools are fun to explore. Camp sites are beautiful and pristine. Wide variety of tourist to locals enjoy the spot. Horseback trail riding dream destination. Stunning eucalyptus forests.
  • Heard this was a great place to see so we navigated the curvy distance and we're glad we'd done it. The trees were huge! We found a great little museum that was quite interesting and fun...Then we found a sweet little beach area with lovely surf, I made a video for meditation. The day was a bit overcast, love going to the beach then. Made for a nice relaxing day.
