  • Mason Neck is a beautiful park that's great for birders, picnickers, kayakers, and forest-walkers (I won't say hikers, b/c it's not exactly "hiking"). Your $10/per car entry fee will get you access...

  • Nice park by the water. Didn't get to see bald eagles, but enjoyed hearing all of the other birds chattering on a brisk, early spring walk along Bayview Trail. Just over a mile in length, this flat scenic trail is an easy stroll. Well used paths that appear well maintained. Lots of water views of Belmont Bay and adjacent swamp. Long boardwalks made for easy waking while watching for wildlife. Saw a jaunty fox on the way in, but only turtles on my walk. Fun stop that must be a cool, shady great in the summer.
  • This park is super close to Alexandria and so easy to get to! The trails are also flat, short and easy, so if you're a little out of shape or you have small kids, don't be intimidated. There is a parking fee ($10 as of 4-24-22) if you decide to drive in but you can park outside the park and walk or bike in as well. If you decide to park in the park though, the parking is plentiful and easy. There are also decent bathrooms at the visitor center. You'll mostly be walking through the woods but you can opt for wetlands or along the river. There is also an area where you can launch a kayak. We've taken a number of trails at this park but this time, we took the Eagle Spur Trail which is an easy trail about 1.5 mile long from the parking area to the river. There's a shelter at the end of the trail where you can relax and enjoy a view of the water (this is where the pics were taken).
