Create an itinerary including Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial
Bike, admire views, or delve into history at Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial. The most famous of hill's residents was Dr. Seuss (aka children's book author Theodor Seuss Geisel), whose house is at the top. Switch gears, and pay your respects to war veterans at a Korean War memorial that resides nearby. Erected in 1913, the 8.8 m (29 ft) tall concrete cross has a controversial past and faces an uncertain future. However, the 251 m (822 ft) tall hill's many roads and light traffic primarily make it a popular cycling spot. You can opt for long and gradual climb or go for a short, steep uphill sprint. Note that cycling up the hill may be tricky on a windy day, and murky weather may obstruct the views. To visit Mt. • My husband's Harley Davidson Group hosts an annual fundraiser ride to wounded warriors based in San Diego. The ride concludes here. It was my first time visiting... so heartfelt.

  • Absolutely awesome memorial in a perfectly peaceful location with stunning 360 degree views. We spent almost an hour there looking at all the memorial plaques which included photos of veterans...

  • This is a beautiful park above La Jolla and PB with 360 degree views of San Diego and the Ocean. The cross is now fenced off and they’ve made it into a Veteran’s Memorial. Parking is hard to find on busy days. Stunning views!
  • Mt Soledad is a San Diego gem, where you can see the whole skyline (often to 90 miles) in each direction. Great for a picnic or those who love a good view. Or sunset/sunrise. I think the cross/memorial itself is technically private property. It is iconic. I am not much of a military person, but I do know it's been good for my kids to see and wonder about those who are represented there--good discussion starter. Last time we were there, people were blowing huge bubbles for visitors to play in before they blew off the mountain.
