Poplar Beach is a beach located in and operated by the city of Half Moon Bay, California. It lies at the end of Poplar Street west of State Route 1. Located roughly a half mile south of Half Moon Bay State Beach, Poplar Beach allows horses and leashed dogs. It is close to a residential area, and there are no fireworks or beach fires allowed. Poplar Beach is open until sunset and is free to the public (though the nearest parking lot is metered).

The Coastal Trail links Poplar Beach to Half Moon Bay State Beach along the top of a bluff with scenic views of the Pacific Ocean and the Mavericks surfing location to the north. This hiking trail is also open to horses and dogs.

  • This is a very pretty beach on the Pacific and we stopped here to enjoy the view on our way to our hike. Good pit stop.

  • One of my favorite beaches in Bay Area. Great hiking trails. Beautiful scenery. Parking is a bit challenging here, the best is to get here before 10 am. Walk on the beach and enjoy the calming sounds of Pacific Ocean. The highway 92 that most visitors from the peninsula area use could get congested and bad sometimes, but early morning always is the best choice to hit the road.
  • Wide expanse of beach to prop tents, chairs and picnic paraphernalia. We have a dog and I'm glad that this beach allows dogs so that we can both enjoy the sand, sea and fresh air experience together. Big expansive stretch of beach for them to run and expend their energies. There's also a paved walking coastal trail by the parking lot stretching out on both directions. The steps going down to the beach is well maintained.
