We used to live near Colvin Run Mill before moving south to an area that’s famous for shrimp and grits. We’ve yet to find any commercial grits that are nearly as good as the ones made at Colvin Run...

So much fun to watch the mill in action. They give a great history lesson with visual aids. The general store sells the products ground at the mill and lots of other things. Loved our experience.

A flour mill built in the early 1800s owned by the Millard family. It is very well preserved, keeping the original vibe of the place intact. There is one big water run gear, which runs the whole mill. Corn and wheat are ground here on a stone mill and can be purchased from the store there. A must visit if you’re in the Fairfax County area of VA. Volunteers give a tour of the place.
