McWay Falls is one of the only waterfalls in the region that empties straight into the ocean. Rising 24.3 m (80ft) above the shoreline of the Pacific, this "tidefall" is accessible via the state park's 1.03 km (0.64 mi) roundtrip trail. Pause at the vantage points along the way to take in views of the ocean and the cascading waters themselves. For a different vantage point, you can reach the beach below the falls via boat. • Spectacular view. Especially for sunset. The only problem is the parking. There are not so many places. And can be crowded very easily. But totally worth it.

  • A must see on any road trip down the PCH. Parking is on the left hand side of the road as you head south and will cost $10. From there there is a short trail the leads through a tunnel under the highway to a walkway along the cliffs overlooking the cove. There is no access to the beach and it is prohibited. It is like looking at something from the Lost World - a pristine beach with a waterfall cascading from the cliffs onto the sand. You can expect crowds at certain times of the day. Count on spending around 30 minutes to soak up the views before continuing on your road trip.
  • The falls are beautiful. This is a really short hike that’s convenient for everyone of all ages and capability. The beach, the giant rocks in the water, and the greenery surrounding the falls make for a really complete view. Parking can sometimes be difficult depending on how many people are already there. When we went the parking area was under construction, but even then we were able to find parking for our visit.
