The Point San Luis Lighthouse, also known as the San Luis Obispo Light Station, is on the National Register of Historic Places. Located near Avila Beach on the Central Coast of California in San Luis Obispo County, it is the only Prairie Victorian model lighthouse left on the West Coast of the United States. It is being refurbished by the Point San Luis Lighthouse Keepers, a volunteer group.

What a cool lighthouse. Very knowledgeable docents. The ride to/from the site is is worth the price of admission itself. Unfortunately you are only allowed 1 hour on site. Ride to/from is about 20...

We took the van tour because my friend can't walk far due to recent knee surgery BUT the van just takes you to the lighthouse property and then you walk around with a guide. Part of the tour is walking up the tower of the lighthouse which is challenging since the steps/ladder are steep and often without hand rails. The views from the property are spectacular - such a beautiful area and the lighthouse has great history. I recommend the tour IF you are able to walk a bit and up and down stairs.

Beautiful old lighthouse & grounds, great scenery. You can access via the shuttle when it's running or water by kayak and the beach. Self led or docent tours available.
