Autopia is a Disneyland attraction, in which patrons steer specially designed cars through an enclosed track. Versions of Autopia exist at Anaheim, California, Disneyland Paris in Marne-la-Vallée, France, and at Hong Kong Disneyland on Lantau Island, Hong Kong. Other versions of the attraction can be found at the Magic Kingdom as the Tomorrowland Speedway and formerly at Tokyo Disneyland as the Grand Circuit Raceway. The name Autopia is a portmanteau of the words "mobile uto." The term was later popularized in academic circles by British architecture critic Reyner Banham to describe Los Angeles in his 1971 book Los Angeles: The Architecture of Four Ecologies.Disneyland AutopiaThe Disneyland Autopia, in one form or another, is one of the few current attractions that opened with the park on July 17, 1955. When it opened, it represented the future of what would become America's multilane limited-access highways, which were still being developed. President Eisenhower had yet to sign the Interstate Highway legislation at the time Disneyland opened. The cars generate a moderate level of exhaust from the Honda GX gasoline engines that propel the cars. The park employees that work at this ride are compensated an additional $0.20 an hour for hazardous environment. In 2000, it was replaced with a much larger Autopia sponsored by Chevron with many cars were replaced with Dusty, Suzy, and Sparky, the queue was even given animated dioramas featuring the Chevron Cars.

  • Disgusting that these cars aren't electric now. They seem happy to let kidsbreath in the fumes. Disney should be leading by example. We pay them enough.

  • Same ride has been in place probably since the beginning of disneyland. There is always a long queue for the ride though you can use Fast Pass to rush you past much of the line. Kids...

  • Okay. I loved this ride as a kid and I knew that it wouldn't be as good as an adult but still. My wife has never been on the ride so I bring Ceilidh and tell her the ride is awesome and you get a little card which is your fake license. First off, our car felt like it was running out of gas the whole time. Second, line was linger than expected. Third, the line of cars backed up was waaaay long. Lastly, the ID was $8 to buy, no thanks. Disappointed but now I know.
  • A great ride for kids and adults, kids will mostly enjoy the ride more since it's the closest thing for them on driving a car. We didn't have to wait long in the line, basically like 5 minutes. I asked for separate cars for me and my fiancée because I wanted to bump into her. But they tell you not to bump the cars in front of you so of course I didn't For the car to actually go, you have to press the pedal all the way down and it's a fun experience especially when it's not a hot day. I don't think you have to do much beside just pressing the pedal all the way down for the car to go. The staff are friendly and you don't have to wear mask during this ride since it's outdoor.
