One of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, Madurai sits on the banks of the River Vaigai and serves as a center of Tamil culture.

Famous as the landing place of Vasco da Gama, the large industrial city of Kozhikode today acts as staging post for adventures around the state, while also boasting some particularly popular beaches.
Kick off your visit on the 22nd (Tue): examine the collection at Nilambur Teak Museum, kick back and relax at Kozhikode Beach, and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Tali Temple. Here are some ideas for day two: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Vayalada, then get a taste of the local shopping with S.M. Street, and then stroll around Mananchira Square.
