The 2013 European "Capital of Culture," Marseille is the largest port city on the breezy Mediterranean coast and the second largest city in France.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Marseille: Carrieres des Lumieres (in Les Baux de Provence), Villa des Flo (in Bandol) and Avignon (Pont d'Avignon & Palais des Papes). There's much more to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde, visit The Panier, take a leisurely stroll along Le Vieux Port, and admire the masterpieces at MAC - Musee d'Art Contemporain.

Nice — 4 nights

Well-known for the beautiful views of its famous Promenade des Anglais waterfront, Nice is an ethnically-diverse coastal port city on the French Riviera and the fifth most populated city in France.
Go for a jaunt from Nice to Cannes to see Lérins Islands about 52 minutes away. There's still lots to do: appreciate the extensive heritage of Vieille Ville, admire the natural beauty at Le Jardin Exotique d'Eze, explore the world behind art at Musee d'Art Moderne Et d'Art Contemporain, and don't miss a visit to Promenade des Anglais.

You can drive from Marseille to Nice in 2.5 hours. Other options are to take a bus; or take a train. In March, plan for daily highs up to 59°F, and evening lows to 47°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 14th (Mon) early enough to catch the flight back home.
