Regarded as an art and history city, Nantes is called the Venice of the West.
Step off the beaten path and head to Chateau d'Angers and Cathedrale de Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul. Get a sense of the local culture at Chateau des Ducs de Bretagne and Passage Pommeraye. Change things up with these side-trips from Nantes: Chateau du Plessis-Mace (in Longuenee-en-Anjou) and Cathedrale Saint-Maurice d'Angers (in Angers).
