One of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, Madurai sits on the banks of the River Vaigai and serves as a center of Tamil culture.
Madurai is known for historic sites, museums, and shopping. Known throughout the country as a major industrial city, Coimbatore possesses a welcoming atmosphere and a growing cosmopolitanism.
When in Coimbatore, make a side trip to see Pykara Lake in Ooty (Udhagamandalam), approximately Ooty (Udhagamandalam) away.
