Indiana's capital and most populous city, Indianapolis is best known for its racecar events and impressive museums, and as the hometown of Kurt Vonnegut.
Here are some ideas for day two: brush up on your military savvy at Indiana War Memorial, examine the collection at Rhythm! Discovery Center, examine the collection at The Eiteljorg Museum, then examine the collection at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, and finally make a trip to Central Canal.

Washington DC to Indianapolis is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. In January, Indianapolis is little chillier than Washington DC - with highs of 36°F and lows of 19°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Thu) early enough to fly to Carmel.

Carmel-by-the-Sea, often simply called Carmel, is a city in Monterey County, California, United States, founded in 1902 and incorporated on October 31, 1916. Do some cultural sightseeing at Hearst Castle and Pacific Grove Oceanview Boulevard. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Carmel: San Simeon (Friends of the Elephant Seal Visitor Center & Piedras Blancas). And it doesn't end there: admire the majestic nature at Point Lobos, take in the exciting artwork at Steven Whyte's Sculpture Studio and Gallery, get a taste of the local shopping with Carmel Art Association, and admire the masterpieces at Casa Serrano, Historic Adobe.
