Buffalo — 4 nights

Queen City

The most populous city in the state after New York, Buffalo serves as the gateway to Niagara Falls and Canada for many travelers.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at St Joseph's Cathedral and Our Lady of Victory National Shrine & Basilica. Niagara Power Project Visitors Center and Burchfield Penney Art Center are good opportunities to explore the local culture. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Buffalo: Niagara Falls (St. Mary of the Cataract R. C. Parish & Bridal Veil Falls). There's still lots to do: admire the landmark architecture of Richardson Olmsted Campus, stroll around Delaware Park, identify plant and animal life at Tifft Nature Preserve, and take an in-depth tour of The Buffalo History Museum.

Washington to Buffalo is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also drive. When traveling from Washington in May, plan for slightly colder days and about the same nights in Buffalo: temperatures range from 69°F by day to 50°F at night. You'll have a few hours on the 8th (Sat) to wrap things up before traveling to Rochester.

Change things up with a short trip to Smith Family Farm in Palmyra (about 38 minutes away). There's much more to do: explore the engaging exhibits at The Strong National Museum of Play, engage your brain at Rochester Museum & Science Center, see the interesting displays at Edgerton Model Railroad Room, and learn about winemaking at Casa Larga Vineyards.
