Queen City

The most populous city in the state after New York, Buffalo serves as the gateway to Niagara Falls and Canada for many travelers.
Get some cultural insight at St Joseph's Cathedral and Our Lady of Victory National Shrine & Basilica. Explore hidden gems such as Lake View Cemetery and Fenton History Center. Change things up with a short trip to National Comedy Center in Jamestown (about 1h 30 min away). The adventure continues: steep yourself in history at Richardson Olmsted Campus, explore the world behind art at Burchfield Penney Art Center, take an in-depth tour of The Buffalo History Museum, and see the interesting displays at Pierce-Arrow Museum.

Traveling from Washington in May, you will find days in Buffalo are little chillier (69°F), and nights are about the same (50°F). Finish your sightseeing early on the 15th (Sat) to allow enough time to drive to Rochester.

Blending big-city culture with small-town charm, Rochester sits on the southern shore of Lake Ontario.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Memorial Art Gallery and National Susan B. Anthony Museum & House. Step off the beaten path and head to Smith Family Farm and Book of Mormon Publication Site. Explore Rochester's surroundings by going to Abbey of the Genesee (in Piffard), The Wadsworth Homestead (in Geneseo) and Jell-O Gallery Museum (in Le Roy). There's lots more to do: have fun and explore at The Strong National Museum of Play, take in the exciting artwork at ARTISANworks, work some fitness into your day at Erie Canal Trail, and stroll around Highland Park.

You can drive from Buffalo to Rochester in 1.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of taxi and train; or take a bus. In May, daytime highs in Rochester are 70°F, while nighttime lows are 49°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Tue) to allow time to drive back home.
