Bethesda — 6 nights

Bethesda is a census-designated place in southern Montgomery County, Maryland, United States, located just northwest of the U.S. capital of Washington, D.C. It takes its name from a local church, the Bethesda Meeting House (1820, rebuilt 1849), which in turn took its name from Jerusalem's Pool of Bethesda. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Bethesda: Ox Hill Battlefield Park (in Chantilly), NRA National Firearms Museum (in Fairfax) and Manassas National Battlefield Park (in Manassas). There's still lots to do: take a pleasant ride with a tour on horseback, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, examine the collection at Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, and steep yourself in history at Eisenhower National Historic Site.

In May in Bethesda, expect temperatures between 74°F during the day and 54°F at night.
