Mai Khao, Phuket — 5 nights

The vast stretches of beach in Mai Khao, once a nesting area for the giant leatherback turtle, are home to various aquatic and relaxation activities.
Mai Khao is known for theme parks, shopping, and spas. Your trip includes some of its best attractions: see some colorful creatures with Paradise Diving Asia, see King Power Phuket Airport, pause for some serene contemplation at Wat Phra Thong, and stroll through The Gibbon Rehabilitation Project (GRP).

Getting from Bangkok to Mai Khao by flight takes about 3 hours. Other options: drive; or do a combination of train, bus, and taxi. In January in Mai Khao, expect temperatures between 89°F during the day and 73°F at night. On the 4th (Fri), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can drive to Karon.

Quieter than nearby Patong Beach, the resort town of Karon offers a wide stretch of golden sand, which attracts mostly couples and families.
Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Big Buddha Phuket and Chaithararam Temple (Wat Chalong). Get out of town with these interesting Karon side-trips: Central Phuket (in Wichit), Choeng Thale (Napas Art Gallery & Green Elephant Sanctuary Park) and Wat Sri Sunthon (in Si Sunthon).
