The vast stretches of beach in Mai Khao, once a nesting area for the giant leatherback turtle, are home to various aquatic and relaxation activities.
Change things up with a short trip to Phuket Elephant Park in Pa Khlok (about 30 minutes away). There's lots more to do: stroll through The Gibbon Rehabilitation Project (GRP), kick back and relax at Naiyang Beach, look for gifts at James Bespoke Suit, and make a trip to Takeoff Landing.

Traveling by flight from Bangkok to Mai Khao takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of train, bus, and taxi. Prepare for little chillier weather when traveling from Bangkok in May: high temperatures in Mai Khao hover around 38°C and lows are around 28°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 4th (Sat) to allow time to drive to Karon.
