Saxony-Anhalt is a fairly young federal state, created in 1946. Nevertheless, it is home to more World Heritage-listed attractions than any other state in Germany. The region notably contains Wittenberg and Eisleben, two cities boasting a close connection to historically significant events in the life of Protestant reformer Martin Luther.
