Bethesda — 2 nights

Bethesda is a census-designated place in southern Montgomery County, Maryland, United States, located just northwest of the U.S. capital of Washington, D.C. It takes its name from a local church, the Bethesda Meeting House (1820, rebuilt 1849), which in turn took its name from Jerusalem's Pool of Bethesda. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Cabin John Regional Park and Ratner Museum. Take a break from the city and head to Sky Meadows State Park and B&A Trail. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Bethesda: Kinder Farm Park (in Millersville), Hidden Oaks Nature Center (in Annandale) and Historic London Town and Gardens (in Edgewater). There's lots more to do: stroll through Capitol Crescent, explore the landscape on two wheels at Sligo Creek Park, hike along Potomac Heritage Trail, and steep yourself in history at Audubon Naturalist Society Woodend Sanctuary.
