South Indian spiritualism meets French chic in Pondicherry, an interesting, unusual, and international destination on the Bay of Bengal.
On the 1st (Sun), tour the pleasant surroundings at Rock Beach, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Paradise Beach. Keep things going the next day: visit a coastal fixture at Old Lighthouse, then take in the waterfront activity at Seaside Promenade, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Arulmigu Manakula Vinayagar Temple, and finally make a trip to Sri Aurobindo Ashram.

Chennai to Pondicherry is an approximately 5-hour bus ride. You can also drive; or take a bus; or do a combination of train and bus. Finish your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Mon) so you can drive to Chidambaram.
