One of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, Madurai sits on the banks of the River Vaigai and serves as a center of Tamil culture.

Start off your visit on the 1st (Mon): make a trip to Arittapatti Shivan Temple and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Koodal Azhagar Temple.

Bengaluru to Madurai is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also take a bus; or drive. Prepare for a bit warmer weather when traveling from Bengaluru in June: high temperatures in Madurai hover around 40°C and lows are around 30°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 1st (Mon) so you can drive to Coimbatore.

Known throughout the country as a major industrial city, Coimbatore possesses a welcoming atmosphere and a growing cosmopolitanism.

You'll find plenty of places to visit near Coimbatore: Virgin Valley Pathrakadvu (in Mannarkkad), Palakkad (Sree Viswanatha Swamy Temple, Varikkasseri Mana, &more) and Ooty Lake (in Ooty (Udhagamandalam)). You can drive from Madurai to Coimbatore in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. Plan for slightly colder nights when traveling from Madurai in June since evenings lows in Coimbatore dip to 27°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 5th (Fri) to allow time to fly back home.
