You can drive from Interlaken to Lucerne in 1.5 hours. Another option is to take a train. Expect somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Interlaken in December: highs in Lucerne hover around 40°F, while lows dip to 29°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Fri) early enough to drive to Appenzell.
