One of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, Madurai sits on the banks of the River Vaigai and serves as a center of Tamil culture.
You'll visit kid-friendly attractions like Palani Murugan Temple and Chella Tours. Get a sense of the local culture at Koodal Azhagar Temple and Pazhamudhir Solai. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Madurai: Kannathal Temple (in Nattarasankottai), Srivilliputhur (Sri Srinivasaperumal Temple & Andal Renga Mannar Temple) and Dindigul (Dindigul Fort, Anjaneyar Temple, &more). And it doesn't end there: take in the spiritual surroundings of Kalaiyar Kovil Temple, browse the different shops at Majesty Cine Mall, indulge in some personalized pampering at some of the best spas, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at Idaikattur Church.

Chennai to Madurai is an approximately 2.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a train. Traveling from Chennai in May, expect nights in Madurai to be about the same, around 30°C, while days are a bit cooler, around 39°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 29th (Sat) to allow time to drive to Coimbatore.

Known throughout the country as a major industrial city, Coimbatore possesses a welcoming atmosphere and a growing cosmopolitanism.
Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Gedee Car Museum and Eachanari Vinayagar Temple. Kids will appreciate attractions like Government Botanical Garden and Velliangiri Andavar Temple. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Coimbatore: Ooty (Udhagamandalam) (Bison Valley, Emerald Lake, &more), Virgin Valley Pathrakadvu (in Mannarkkad) and Kalpathy Temple (in Palakkad). Drive from Madurai to Coimbatore in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. In May, plan for daily highs up to 40°C, and evening lows to 28°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Fri) to allow time to fly back home.
