Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Ynez Mountains, Santa Barbara is a solid vacation destination with its wide beaches, renowned wineries, and some of California's finest shopping and dining options.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum and Old Mission Santa Barbara. Wine Tours & Tastings and The Historic La Arcada Courtyard are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get out of town with these interesting Santa Barbara side-trips: Institution Ale Company (in Camarillo), Serra Cross Park (in Ventura) and Fillmore Historical Museum (in Fillmore). There's still lots to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Monarch Butterfly Grove, examine the collection at Hans Christian Andersen Museum, steep yourself in history at Santa Barbara County Courthouse, and do a tasting at Summerland Winery.
