Eternal City

Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Pantheon has been added to your itinerary. Get outdoors at Colle del Gianicolo and Grotte di Falvaterra. Get out of town with these interesting Rome side-trips: Funivia del Gran Sasso D'Italia (in Assergi), Pietrasecca (Grotta del Cervo & Grotte di Pietrasecca) and Lido dei Cigni Stabilimento Balneare (in Anguillara Sabazia). There's much more to do: delve into the distant past at Colosseum, make a trip to Spanish Steps, admire the local landmark of Trevi Fountain, and steep yourself in history at Palatine Hill.

To find other places to visit, reviews, where to stay, and more tourist information, go to the Rome trip itinerary builder website.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major aiports are Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport, Ciampino–G. B. Pastine International Airport and Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi – Umbria International Airport. In January, plan for daily highs up to 55°F, and evening lows to 39°F.
