Writer Pearl Buck once called New York City “a place apart,” and this giant urban center remains unlike any other in the world.
Your cultural itinerary includes sights like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Ground Zero Museum Workshop. Step off the beaten path and head to The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and New York Public Library. Get out of town with these interesting New York City side-trips: Poughkeepsie (Calvary Chapel of the Hudson Valley & Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park) and Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum (in Hyde Park). There's much more to do: wander the streets of Greenwich Village, get to know the fascinating history of Brooklyn Heights Promenade, pause for some serene contemplation at St. Patrick's Cathedral, and stop by Dumbo.

Washington to New York City is an approximately 4-hour flight. You can also drive. While traveling from Washington, expect little chillier days and about the same nights in New York City, ranging from highs of 61°F to lows of 45°F. On the 20th (Tue), you're off to Buffalo.

The most populous city in the state after New York, Buffalo serves as the gateway to Niagara Falls and Canada for many travelers.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Frank Lloyd Wright's Martin House and Niagara Falls. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Our Lady of Victory National Shrine & Basilica and Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park. Explore Buffalo's surroundings by going to Lewiston (Niagara Power Project Visitors Center & Tuscarora Heroes Monument), Niagara Falls Observation Tower (in Niagara Falls) and Native American Museum of Art (in Sanborn). There's still lots to do: make a trip to Canalside, take in the spiritual surroundings of Michigan Street Baptist Church, learn more about the world around you at Buffalo Museum of Science, and try to win big at Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino.

You can fly from New York City to Buffalo in 3 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. In April, Buffalo is little chillier than New York City - with highs of 55°F and lows of 36°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 24th (Sat) so you can go by car to Rochester.

Blending big-city culture with small-town charm, Rochester sits on the southern shore of Lake Ontario.

Traveling by car from Buffalo to Rochester takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi and train; or take a bus. April in Rochester sees daily highs of 56°F and lows of 36°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 27th (Tue) early enough to drive back home.
