The former capital of the Kingdom of Ladakh, Leh possesses a historic old town area marked by stupas, monasteries, and traditional mud-brick houses.
Visiting Khardung La and Nubra Valley will get you outdoors. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Gurudwara Shri Pathar Sahib and Alchi Monastery. Step out of Leh with an excursion to Hemis Monastery in Hemis--about 1h 5 min away. There's lots more to do: tour the pleasant surroundings at Sand Dunes Leisure Park, pause for some photo ops at Shey Monastery, appreciate the views at Suru Valley, and explore the striking landscape at Magnetic Hill.
