With a long history of producing regional wines since the Romans brought grapevines here during the first century, so many people consider Bordeaux to be the wine capital of the world.Place de la Bourse and Wine Tours & Tastings are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Gateway to Provence
The 2013 European "Capital of Culture," Marseille is the largest port city on the breezy Mediterranean coast and the second largest city in France.Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde and Palais des Papes are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Change things up with these side-trips from Marseille: Amphitheatre (les Arenes) (in Arles), Miroir aux Oiseaux (in Martigues) and Chateau de la Gardine (in Chateauneuf-du-Pape). There's still lots to do: take a stroll through The Panier, snap pictures at Pont d'Avignon, don't miss a visit to Chateau d'If, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Abbaye Saint Victor.
