The 2013 European "Capital of Culture," Marseille is the largest port city on the breezy Mediterranean coast and the second largest city in France.
Get some cultural insight at Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde and Pont d'Avignon. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Marseille: Avignon (Palais du Roure, Palais des Papes, &more), Aix-en-Provence (Fondation Vasarely, Paroisse Cathédrale Saint Sauveur Aix-en-Provence, &more) and Le Sentier des Moulins d'Alphonse Daudet (in Fontvieille).
