Interlaken — 7 nights

Nestled between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz in the heart of the Jungfrau region, Interlaken became popular for its proximity to the mountains and lakes of the Bernese Oberland region.Attractions like Interlaken Walking Tours and Jesuitenkirche make great kid-friendly stops. Kleine Scheidegg and Oberhofen Castle are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get out of town with these interesting Interlaken side-trips: Reichenbach Waterfall (in Meiringen), Montreux (Musée de Montreux, Montreux Lakeside, &more) and Chateau de Chillon (in Veytaux). Next up on the itinerary: get great views at Thrill Walk Felsensteg Birg, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Allmendhubel, glide through the air with Airtime Paragliding, and stroll through Schynige Platte.

Best known as home the Matterhorn mountain, Zermatt serves as a chic ski resort town of the Swiss Alps.Discover out-of-the-way places like Sunnegga and Fondation Pierre Gianadda. Get a sense of the local culture at Matterhorn Museum - Zermatlantis and Mountaineers' Cemetery. Get out of town with these interesting Zermatt side-trips: Luftseilbahnen Fiesch-Eggishorn AG (in Fiesch in Valais), Zoo Et Piscine des Marecottes (in Les Marecottes) and Riederalp (in Riederalp). There's still lots to do: contemplate the waterfront views at Riffelsee, take a memorable tour with Tours, trek along 5 Lakes Walk, and stroll through Bisse Saviese Torrent-Neuf.

Take a train from Interlaken to Zermatt in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. On the 13th (Tue), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel back home.
