When you arrive in tiny San Simeon, which lies halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, you can see why William Randolph Hearst chose this coastal locale for his famous hilltop castle.
On the 23rd (Tue), visit a coastal fixture at Piedras Blancas Light Station, then don't miss a visit to San Simeon Pier, then step into the grandiose world of Hearst Castle, and finally take some stellar pictures from Ragged Point Overlook. Keep things going the next day: immerse yourself in nature at San Simeon State Park, then look for all kinds of wild species at Piedras Blancas, then do a tasting at Hearst Ranch Winery, and finally tour the pleasant surroundings at William Randolph Hearst Memorial Beach.
