Just a few metro stops away from the bustle of Washington D.C., Alexandria provides a respite from the fast-paced capital.Take a break from the city and head to Virginia Capital Trail and Chesapeake Beach Railway Trail. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Carlyle House and Fort Washington Park. Change things up with these side-trips from Alexandria: Running Hare Vineyard (in Prince Frederick), Flag Ponds Nature Park (in Lusby) and Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum (in Saint Leonard).
