Washington DC to Gatlinburg is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of train, bus, and car. In August, plan for daily highs up to 87°F, and evening lows to 68°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 3rd (Tue) to allow time to travel to Moab.

The gateway to Utah's popular canyon country, Moab sits engulfed in the middle of desert wilderness.
On the 4th (Wed), stroll through Balanced Rock Trail, explore the striking landscape at Sand Dune Arch, then explore the striking landscape at Fiery Furnace, and finally admire all the interesting features of Arches National Park Scenic Drive. Keep things going the next day: tour the pleasant surroundings at Grandstaff Canyon Trail, cruise along Colorado Riverway Recreation Area, then hike along Park Avenue Trail, and finally explore the striking landscape at Wilson's Arch.

You can do a combination of flight and car from Gatlinburg to Moab in 9.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or do a combination of car, bus, subway, and train. The time zone difference when traveling from Gatlinburg to Moab is minus 2 hours. Traveling from Gatlinburg in September, expect little chillier with lows of 55°F in Moab. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Thu) to allow enough time to travel to Yellowstone National Park.

Traveling from Moab in September, things will get much colder in Yellowstone National Park: highs are around 60°F and lows about 33°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 8th (Sun) to allow enough time to fly back home.
