Hampi — 1 night

The temple town of Hampi sits on the site where one of the richest and biggest cities on the planet once stood, with the ruins of the old city protected as a World Heritage Site.
On the 20th (Wed), make a trip to Dasara Dibba, explore the activities along Tungabhadra River, then steep yourself in history at Group of Monuments at Hampi, and finally take in the dramatic natural features at Matanga Hill. On the 21st (Thu), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: appreciate the history behind Statue of Ugra Narsimha, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Hazara Rama Temple, make a trip to Elephant Stables, then admire the landmark architecture of Lotus Mahal, and finally steep yourself in history at Zanana Enclosure.

Chennai to Hampi is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and taxi; or drive. When traveling from Chennai in January, plan for a bit cooler days and about the same nights in Hampi: temperatures range from 31°C by day to 23°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Thu) early enough to drive to Badami.

Famous for its cave temples, Badami served as the capital of the Badami Chalukyas from 540 to 757 CE--and this rich history has left plenty of things to do for visitors today.
Kick off your visit on the 22nd (Fri): contemplate the long history of Group of Monuments in Pattadakal, take in the spiritual surroundings of Bhuthanatha Temple, then Head underground at Badami Cave Temples, and finally explore the activities along Agastya Lake.
