Regarded as an art and history city, Nantes is called the Venice of the West.
Venture out of the city with trips to Sentier des Douaniers (in Pornic), Vendee Evasion Parachutisme (in Chateau-d'Olonne) and Puy du Fou (in Les Epesses). There's still lots to do: examine the collection at Les Machines de L'ile, soothe aching muscles at O35, take in nature's colorful creations at Jardin des Plantes, and explore the historical opulence of Chateau des Ducs de Bretagne.

On the Garonne River, Toulouse is on the site of an ancient Roman settlement, and even today, many of the smaller streets follow their Roman counterparts, while many of the red brick buildings are built in a pseudo-Roman style.
Start off your visit on the 2nd (Thu): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Church of Les Jacobins. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: steep yourself in history at Cathar Castles, then take a stroll through Cité de Carcassonne, and then explore the world behind art at Musee des Augustins.
