Monte Carlo of Switzerland

Located in the popular holiday region of Ticino, Lugano is the largest Italian-speaking town in Switzerland.
Get a sense of the local culture at Chiesa di Santa Maria Immacolata and Santa Maria degli Angioli. Attractions like Lake Lugano and Parrocchia Cattolica Romana Sacro Cuore make great kid-friendly stops. There's lots more to do: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Monte San Salvatore, delve into the distant past at Monte San Giorgio, walk around Parco Ciani, and appreciate the extensive heritage of Centro storico Gandria.

Situated where the Swiss, German, and French borders meet, Basel is considered the hub of Dreilandereck, this "three countries corner." Its location makes Basel a center of culture and history, brimming with important theaters and museums.
Attractions like Lake Zurich and Old Town make great kid-friendly stops. Basel Minster and Museum Tinguely are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get out of town with these interesting Basel side-trips: Lucerne (Chapel Bridge & Lion Monument), Mt Pilatus (in Kriens) and Zurich (Zurcher Spielzeugmuseum & Bahnhofstrasse). Next up on the itinerary: fly like a bird with a parasailing or paragliding tour, view the masterpieces at Art Basel, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Offene Kirche Elisabethen, and stop by Jakob's Basler Leckerly.

Drive from Lugano to Basel in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. Traveling from Lugano in June, expect little chillier with lows of 15°C in Basel. Finish your sightseeing early on the 14th (Tue) so you can fly back home.
